Welcome,
My name is Michael Fernandez, and I am a creative professional with the technical construction background and experience to bridge the gap between ideas and execution.
I have been building and making props since I was 5 years old, and it is something I have consistently honed since then, alongside other work experiences. I was 15 years old when I first started in the construction industry, working as a locksmith, where I first got a taste of the trades and working with clients. When I was 18 years old I landed my first internship with Nassal as a fabrication intern, in an art role, where I would recreate the elements from iconic movies and video games. This was where I saw a real opportunity to combine my construction background and creative aptitudes. Following this internship, I worked at Lowe’s as a forklift operator where I practiced rigid safety standards and refined my customer service skills.
Currently, I am attending the University of Florida studying Construction Management and minoring in Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT). Here I am reinforcing the technical background to manage large scale projects, while understanding the fundamentals of media creation.
This past summer I returned to Nassal as a project management intern where my responsibilities and role in major projects increased exponentially. Unfortunately, the projects I am a part of require strict confidentiality, which I maintain with extreme importance. Because of this, some of my coolest projects are protected by NDAs and I cannot discuss or showcase the projects I worked on but will be more than happy to share what I have learned and taken away from the largest entertainment projects in the world. Working directly alongside Walt Disney Imagineering and Universal Creative, my career goals started to come into focus.
My dream is to tell stories that impact people and guests around the world. Whether through the built environment, the props I make, the animations I render, my guest-focused building designs, or the scripts I write, the entertainment industry is the perfect intersection of where my technical background merges with my artistic capabilities and aptitudes. Whether in the studio, workshop, jobsite, writers room, on set, or backstage, I am driven to apply my skills and experience, learn, and tell new original stories that move, inspire, and entertain the next generation.
